Treatments by: Pauline Sok Yin Hwang. I use Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture to treat anxiety, stress, insomnia, depression, digestion, menstrual health, and pain, and have offices in North York and downtown Toronto.
Proceeds go to: Groundswell Community Justice Trust Fund
The Groundswell Community Justice Trust Fund supports groups led by people who are directly affected by discrimination, criminalization, and exploitation. Fund recipients build the power of their communities to change their own conditions.
Why this matters: Health and wellness isn’t just about our individual choices – it’s about having access to fresh food, clean water and air, secure housing, stable jobs with good pay, meaningful community, and freedom from violence, discrimination, and oppression. Poverty is a key factor in one’s health. So to improve my community’s wellness, I can’t just work with individuals in the clinic – I need to support and participate in more systemic social change.
That’s where this fundraiser comes in. Those the funds will go toward are doing hard, frontline work to protect and improve their communities.
Years ago, I decided if I won the lottery, I would create a fund for grassroots community groups that are (a) led by those most impacted by the issue (not by outside do-gooders), (b) unafraid to speak truth to power (i.e. not changing their analysis of the issues to play political games), and (c) independent of or unreliant on corporate and government funding. When I heard about the new Groundswell Community Justice Trust Fund, I was relieved that a team of activists and community organizers had already created this resource!
It is an honour to support Groundswell in any way I can. Half the funds raised go toward immediate projects, and the other half is banked to build up the fund’s capital endowment. Please contact them or myself if you have any questions about where the money goes – I encourage you to be as generous to them as you possibly can!
The day of: Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment to complete the intake and consent forms. Please also wear or bring loose-fitting clothes that can be rolled up to the elbows and knees.
